Application of optical fiber refractive index in equipment for detecting the concentration of oil-water mixtures

Application of optical fiber refractive index in equipment for detecting the concentration of oil-water mixtures

2024-02-22

Excessive moisture in the oil will seriously affect the lubrication effect of the equipment, and the moisture content in the oil must be controlled as low as possible. Purpose of moisture detection in oil:
1. Moisture will cause the oil to emulsify, reduce the oil quality and oil film strength, making the effect worse.
2. Moisture will cause the oil to oxidize and deteriorate, increase sludge, and worsen the oil quality. It can even accelerate the corrosion of metals by organic acids, such as reducing the insulation performance of transformer oil.
3. Moisture will cause the additives in the oil to undergo a hydrolysis reaction and become ineffective, causing deposits to block the oil circuit and prevent normal oil circulation.
4. At low temperatures, water makes the fluidity of lubricating oil poorer and the viscosity-temperature properties deteriorate; at high temperatures, water vaporizes, which not only destroys the oil film, but also creates air lock, affecting the circulation of lubricating oil.
The oil-water mixture detection device can improve the sensitivity and detection accuracy of the detection device , and can take into account the detection accuracy of oil and water content, thereby improving the use effect of the oil-water mixture detection device . FRI is a fiber optic refractive index sensor that provides better and more reliable refractive index measurements for existing applications in the industry. At the same time, the sensor also has new expanded capabilities for continuous online monitoring of fluid refractive index under harsh conditions. These sensors are ideal for measuring the refractive index of fluids used in industrial, chemical and food processing processes. They are also commonly used to measure oil concentration ratios. For engineers in the instrumentation industry, this field-proven solution is a valuable asset.
FRI, a Canadian FISO fiber optic refractive index sensor from Gongcai.com, is based on the length change of the Fluid Fabry-Perot optical cavity to accurately measure the refractive index of the fluid. The length of the flush Fabry-Perot optical cavity is proportional to the refractive index of the fluid sample. Therefore, the refractive index can be determined by measuring the length of the Fabry-Perot cavity using white light interference technology. We are able to offer two FRI fiber optic refractive index sensor models: FRI-BA and FRI-NP. The former is a small mini package, while the latter is a rugged stainless steel package suitable for industrial applications.
In addition, FRI sensors can operate normally in environments with varying temperatures , EMI and other conditions. In any application involving fluid chemistry and fluid quality control, including cooling systems, engineers in the R&D department may need to improve process and product technology by monitoring the performance of specific characteristics over time. Specific product performance changes will be manifested in the refractive index during operation, manufacturing or throughout the product's life cycle. Using the FRI refractive index sensor, comprehensive refractive index analysis of targets can be carried out in challenging and harsh environments. Even in harsh temperature, EMI, humidity environments and changing simple calibration situations, fiber optic signal conditioners still have the ability to measure refractive index.
